Overnight Camping at the Peak, Stars and Planets Astronomy Talk
The topic of discussion will be Stars and Planets. Allison will have her telescope sitting on a tripod for everyone to enjoy. This will be a hike to remember! Once at the peak there will be time for everyone to enjoy the area. Like all are hikes in this summer series, this is only available to you through this special permit, at any other time there is NO camping at the peak.
Event Date and Time: August 19 8:30 a.m. thru Aug. 20, about 2 p.m.
Meet at: The Long Valley Ranger Station
Difficulty level: 9.5/10
Distance: 12 miles round trip, uneven and steep terrain
Destination: Mt. San Jacinto Peak, 10,834 feet elevation
Cost: $5.00 camping fee/per person + tram ticket ($25.95)
Present your NHA membership card and receive a 20% ticket discount.
Requirements. Must pre-register at least 5 days prior to program to participate
Take the 8AM tram car to arrive at the meeting location on time
Each participant must bring water, food, camping gear and a backpack to carry it in.
Proper hiking attire i.e. hiking clothes, hiking boots, hat, sunglasses. Even though it is August, it will be chilly at the peak at night.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian
We will leave the Long Valley Ranger Station at 8:30 AM Aug. 19th and return Aug. 20th around 2:00 PM
