Crotalus mitchellii

Most commonly seen snake in Long Valley.

Description: Color varies considerably, depending upon habitat. From pinkish to cream to tan. Mottled appearance; sometime salt & pepper speckling mimics granite. Dark rings on the tail. Length from 36” – 52”

Habitat: Open areas, barren rock buttes, pinyon juniper forests.

Range: Sea level to about 9,000’; throughout CA

Food: Various rodents, ground squirrels, lizards & frogs.
