California Corn Lily

Veratrum californicum var. californicum

Family: Lily (Liliaceae)

Habitat: wet areas, particularly along creek to RV

Characteristics: Broad, light green leaves with parallel veins. The lily resembles a corn plant with a stalk growing from the center. The flowers grow along a divided stem at the top of the plant.

Blooms: July, August (killed by first frost); along creek to RV, TV

Comments: This plant is often confused with skunk cabbage. However, there isn’t any skunk cabbage growing in the park. The plants in Skunk Cabbage Meadow are really corn lily.
